Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Lessons, fees, exams, parking and everything else parents ask before they start.
What ages do you teach?
Pre-school through to adult. We teach complete beginners and advanced students preparing for examinations, auditions and competitions, and we match each student to a teacher who suits their age and level.
Which instruments do you teach?
Piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, flute and guitar, along with music theory in group classes. If you do not see your instrument listed, ask, we may still be able to help.
How much do lessons cost?
Fees depend on the lesson length and the teacher. Contact us and we will confirm the current rate for the instrument and level you are asking about.
How are students matched to a teacher?
Every student is matched to the teacher who best fits their age, level and temperament, and that teacher builds a programme around them. As we put it: there isn’t a best teacher, only the most suitable one.
Can I sit AMEB examinations at the school?
Yes. Fantasia is an accredited AMEB examination venue. Examinations take place in our own studios during the examination period each year, so students do not travel into the city to sit them.
Are there opportunities to perform?
We host student concerts every two weeks during school term, free of charge for every student, on a special edition Steinway performance grand. Students also perform in eisteddfods and competitions across Sydney, and in our own piano competition. To sign up for a concert, speak to your teacher or add your details to the sheet at reception.
What is the cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours notice of any change, otherwise the lesson credit is forfeit.
Same-day cancellations for COVID or other health reasons can be rescheduled at the teacher’s discretion and availability if a medical certificate is provided. If your teacher is not available, we will arrange another teacher or an online lesson instead.
If lessons are missed during the term, make-up lessons can be organised in the following school holidays depending on teacher availability, after which the credit is forfeit.
Can parents sit in on lessons?
Parents are welcome to attend lessons, though it is not compulsory. All children are supervised during lesson times. If you are waiting in the lobby, we ask for your help keeping the space quiet and orderly.
Where do we park?
Three hours of free parking is available at Chatswood Chase Shopping Centre, and there is street parking along Neridah Street. We are next to Chatswood Police Station and a seven minute walk from Chatswood Station.
Ready to choose a music lesson?
Explore the instrument pages for teaching information and teacher profiles. For a question about illness or a missed lesson, read the school's policy and contact the office about your circumstances before assuming a credit or make-up lesson is available.
